ICH is conducting a qualitative research study on disparities in substance use disorder (SUD) treatment among Black and Latinx patients at Mass General Brigham (MGB). Using quantitative data, MGB previously identified a disparity in their SUD treatment services and engaged ICH to conduct a qualitative study to better understand the drivers of this disparity, including barriers and facilitators to accessing and engaging in treatment. The study will involve approximately 10 interviews with key informants in the MGB system, such as treatment providers, mental health clinicians, case managers, recovery coaches, and peer navigators; as well as 8 focus groups with Black and Latinx MGB patients with SUD diagnoses. Focus groups will be held in English, Spanish, and/or Portuguese. ICH will summarize and report on qualitative findings to MGB in order to inform changes to SUD treatment programming and the upcoming expansion of their regional Bridge Clinic services. ICH and MGB will also collaborate on manuscripts for publication based on study findings.
