ICH is leading a study on immigrant contributions, expenditures and net contributions to the US healthcare economy as a whole. This study builds on ICH’s prior work published in Health Affairs estimating immigrants’ Medicare Hospital Insurance Trust Fund contributions, and employer sponsored and individual market (ESI) private health insurance contributions. To conduct this study, ICH is designing new methods for estimating immigrant contributions to and expenditures from other health insurance and payment systems. ICH is using nationally representative data from the Medical Expenditure Panel Survey (MEPS) and Current Population Survey (CPS).
